Kardo Findlater Collection

Alexander Kardo Sessoeff was an art scholar and prolific collector -
he and his wife Jane Findlater deriving huge pleasure from the intellectual challenge of travelling widely, buying speculatively
and then authenticating paintings, drawings and other
works of art.

He relied on an eye that spotted Raphael drawings, a Constable portrait, a Rubens and other notable work, many of which were sold through Christies and the international auction houses. In addition his eternal enthusiasm encouraged the acquisition of more obscure works.

A number of pieces from the collection have been loaned to museums around the world including the National Gallery of Scotland, where some are currently displayed.

The family continue to acquire and commission work to add to the collection.
